I have despised the wind. Forgive me Lord. In days past when I played the lovely game of golf…many days were ruined by the wind. Ok, so my golf game played a part in the ruining of the days as well.
There have been several occasions at our dear church out on the flats when the wind has been blowing so hard…I have wondered if we may soon be a new church plant in Lake View Manor or Canyon Ferry 🙂
One day many years past, I literally had to grab hold of my daughter, Lynzee, in Livingston because the wind wanted to take her away like Elijah in the fiery chariots. She was only five or six years old and stood no chance against it. So yes…I have despised the wind. But, today as I write this…I think I shall never again despise the wind. You see, over the past years, I have come to view it differently.
In The Bible, the wind is a type or illustration for The Holy Spirit. It was there at creation hovering over the chaos and brooding over the darkness. The Spirit of God, The Ruach, The Breath of GOD as represented by wind was present in verse two of Genesis.
In the New Testament, Jesus has a conversation with Nicodemus that eventually leads to the famous verse that most everyone knows…John 3:16. But in the course of the conversation about GOD’s ways, Jesus said basically that The Holy Spirit is like the wind and it comes from where it may and goes where it pleases.
In other words, we can’t control it, we can only experience it. We don’t even see it directly, but we can certainly see its affect indirectly. That is true for the wind too. What I mean is that when you see the wind blowing the leaves of the tree or the dust of the field, you see the affect, not the wind itself.
It is like that with GOD’s Holy Spirit too. Open your heart and confess to Christ, repent of your sins and receive His grace, believe in GOD’s love beyond all measure…and then watch the Holy Spirit’s affect on you. Praise be to GOD!!!
In Christ’s Love,
Pastor Mike 🙂
