Perspective. I read this story awhile back, but I’m not sure of the exact source. Anyway, I will try to share it to the best of my memory. Uh oh! It was about this man and his wife, who decided to go out for a nice drive. Everything is going just beautiful and great, until suddenly a car pulls right out in front, almost causing an accident. “Well, that jerk!” the man exclaims. His wife is startled, but she instantly chastises her husband, “Oh settle down, we’re ok. There was no accident, praise GOD!” The man tries to start breathing again, but only making matters worse, the car that almost hit them is now putting along at a ridiculously low speed, and there is no way to go around. The man’s stomach acid is really churning now. His wife, knowing her husband well, says, “Look, there is a gas station up ahead. Why not pull in and fill up the tank? Let this person go on ahead.” But sure enough, as soon as he hits his blinker, so does the car ahead. As it pulls up to the pump, the car parks at such a strange angle, the man behind cannot drive around to get his own gas! He is stuck because he cannot back up into traffic either. He puts it in park and knows he will have to just wait, but now he is toxic! “Are you serious? What is with this idiot?” he exclaims to his wife. But much to his chagrin and surprise, out of the car steps a little old lady looking lost and confused. As the couple watches, they realize that she doesn’t even seem to know how to run the pumps or open the gas tank. Instant conviction settles over the man, and his wife only makes it worse. “Get your rear out there and help her now.” The man offers no protest. As he walks up to the woman, he unintentionally startles and scares her. This day is only getting worse. He says in the kindest, sweetest voice he can muster, “Ma am, may I help you?” Her eyes immediately fill with tears as she realizes he is not a threat, but an angel sent by GOD. She says to him, “Oh would you please. My dear husband died yesterday, and he always did the driving. This is the first time I have ever had to do this.”
Maybe your eyes teared at the story. I kind of hope so, as it would only reveal your heart. It is called Holy Spirit conviction. It brings a whole new perspective to things doesn’t it? How many times a day do we jump to conclusions, make assumptions, and end up playing the jerk and idiot ourselves? I will stop with the name calling, but I’m sure you understand my meaning. Isaiah 55:8 reads, “For My thoughts are not like your thoughts, nor are your ways like My ways.” declares The Lord. “As high as the Heavens are above the earth, so are My Ways higher than your ways, and My thoughts higher than your thoughts.” GOD sometimes surprises us with stressful situations to teach us His Ways. We know these tests come from Him when they challenge our hearts and our thinking, but deep down, we know the conviction is bedrock truth. Like I said, “Perspective.” That passage goes on to explain how the rain comes to water the earth making it to flourish and grow. So it is when the Holy Spirit brings us perspective and conviction…like the rain watering our souls, helping us to grow into His beautiful image. All praise and honor to Jesus Christ our Lord. Blessings!
